Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Tobacco, Electrical and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.34% or 55.00 points to trade at 1700.50 at the close. Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) added 2.58% or 7.30 points to end at 289.80 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 1.89% or 12.80 points to 689.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 4.37% or 40.60 points to trade at 888.40 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 2.45% or 2.24 points to end at 89.28 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) shed 2.27% or 10.10 points to 434.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1121 to 1042 and 231 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.05% or 0.65 to $1343.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.38% or 0.20 to hit $52.31 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.74% or 0.46 to trade at $61.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.2554, while EUR/GBP rose 0.47% to 0.8940.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 96.998.
