Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, General Retailers and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 1.48% or 19.80 points to trade at 1,356.80 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 1.25% or 38.00 points to end at 3,078.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 1.13% or 6.20 points to 556.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 4.75% or 50.00 points to trade at 1,003.00 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 3.96% or 68.50 points to end at 1,662.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 3.86% or 242.00 points to 6,032.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1176 to 747 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.64% or 12.30 to $1,945.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.83% or 5.21 to hit $102.61 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.11% or 4.58 to trade at $106.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 98.28.
