Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Electrical and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 5.53% or 368.00 points to trade at 7020.00 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 2.24% or 32.2 points to end at 1469.6 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 2.16% or 57.50 points to 2721.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 5.17% or 57.50 points to trade at 1054.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 5.16% or 23.90 points to end at 439.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 5.04% or 7.90 points to 148.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1706 to 389 and 278 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.20% or 2.45 to $1250.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.01% or 1.06 to hit $51.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.38% or 0.85 to trade at $60.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.52% to 1.2558, while EUR/GBP rose 1.22% to 0.9052.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 97.067.
