Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Automobiles & Parts and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.40% or 22.60 points to trade at 688.00 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 2.77% or 4.18 points to end at 155.30 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 2.57% or 26.00 points to 1036.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 6.57% or 38.80 points to trade at 551.90 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 5.36% or 0.41 points to end at 7.25 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 4.46% or 10.55 points to 226.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1386 to 760 and 194 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.09% or 17.25 to $1603.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.54% or 0.28 to hit $52.04 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.23 to trade at $57.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.3002, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8307.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 99.285.
