Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Insurance and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq), which rose 2.62% or 0.20 points to trade at 7.74 at the close. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) added 1.91% or 28.50 points to end at 1522.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 1.32% or 4.80 points to 369.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which lost 3.61% or 51.50 points to trade at 1373.50 in late trade. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) declined 2.97% or 65.00 points to end at 2124.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.86% or 59.00 points to 2003.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1410 to 779 and 207 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.26% or 4.55 to $1768.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.85% or 0.62 to hit $73.60 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.52 to trade at $74.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.20% to 1.3808, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8584.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 92.377.
