Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Automobiles & Parts and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 4.72% or 304.00 points to trade at 6,742.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 3.63% or 40.00 points to end at 1,143.50 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 1.87% or 12.60 points to 687.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which lost 6.79% or 755.00 points to trade at 10,360.00 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 5.85% or 27.00 points to end at 434.90 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) shed 2.89% or 160.00 points to 5,370.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1172 to 492 and 500 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.48% or 9.55 to $1,961.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.82% or 0.59 to hit $71.34 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.52 to trade at $76.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 102.13.
