Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Metals & Mining and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 2.60% or 119.00 points to trade at 4700.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 1.97% or 3.50 points to end at 181.02 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 1.52% or 3.70 points to 246.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 6.27% or 80.00 points to trade at 1196.50 in late trade. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) declined 4.88% or 7.82 points to end at 152.54 and The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH) shed 4.36% or 160.00 points to 3510.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1311 to 706 and 318 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.79% or 9.50 to $1197.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.37% or 0.26 to hit $70.06 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.19 to trade at $78.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.33% to 1.2829, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.9016.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 95.47.
