Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which rose 6.59% or 7.00 points to trade at 113.25 at the close. Informa PLC (LON:INF) added 6.53% or 54.00 points to end at 881.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 3.86% or 6.45 points to 173.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 4.60% or 222.00 points to trade at 4606.50 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 4.51% or 32.20 points to end at 682.40 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) shed 4.00% or 81.70 points to 1960.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1100 to 1030 and 211 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1421.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $56.76 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.44% or 0.28 to trade at $64.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.48% to 1.2495, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.8916.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 97.393.
