Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the General Retailers, Travel & Leisure and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DCC plc (LON:DCC), which rose 8.97% or 494.0 points to trade at 6000.0 at the close. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) added 2.46% or 305.0 points to end at 12720.0 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) was up 2.35% or 32.50 points to 1418.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.84% or 73.4 points to trade at 1184.0 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 5.39% or 74.50 points to end at 1308.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 5.10% or 6.76 points to 125.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1242 to 728 and 494 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.39% or 6.85 to $1765.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $70.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.07 to trade at $73.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.3214, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8519.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.588.
