Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Media, Tobacco and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.29% or 37.00 points to trade at 1,162.00 at the close. Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) added 3.28% or 73.50 points to end at 2,317.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.14% or 89.50 points to 2,943.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 5.02% or 42.20 points to trade at 798.80 in late trade. Informa PLC (LON:INF) declined 4.41% or 25.00 points to end at 542.60 and Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) shed 3.70% or 58.00 points to 1,509.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1242 to 582 and 434 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.77% or 13.55 to $1,761.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.75% or 3.39 to hit $93.75 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.50% or 3.38 to trade at $99.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.60% to 1.18, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 108.42.
