Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Tobacco and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 1.91% or 1.56 points to trade at 83.06 at the close. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) added 1.75% or 5.90 points to end at 343.90 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 1.68% or 174.00 points to 10,520.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 5.51% or 191.00 points to trade at 3,274.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.47% or 55.00 points to end at 1,176.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) shed 3.67% or 246.00 points to 6,450.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1066 to 769 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.10% or 18.10 to $1,667.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.71% or 1.51 to hit $89.88 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.54% or 1.46 to trade at $96.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.47% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.26% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 110.58.
