Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 3.15% or 4.45 points to trade at 145.75 at the close. GSK plc (LON:GSK) added 2.74% or 40.60 points to end at 1,520.40 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) was up 1.61% or 18.00 points to 1,134.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 6.79% or 86.00 points to trade at 1,180.50 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 5.04% or 99.20 points to end at 1,869.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 4.95% or 21.40 points to 411.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1165 to 515 and 444 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.60% or 33.10 to $2,040.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.90% or 2.04 to hit $72.42 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.66% or 2.02 to trade at $77.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.50% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 102.31.
