Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Aerospace & Defense and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which rose 1.80% or 19.00 points to trade at 1075.00 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 1.66% or 22.00 points to end at 1348.00 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) was up 1.63% or 49.0 points to 3063.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 7.65% or 23.70 points to trade at 286.00 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 6.04% or 59.8 points to end at 930.4 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 6.03% or 11.75 points to 183.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1423 to 766 and 171 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.83% or 35.25 to $1893.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.41% or 0.95 to hit $40.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.94% or 0.81 to trade at $42.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.2954, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.9059.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 93.578.
