Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 4.90% or 60.50 points to trade at 1,296.50 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) added 3.72% or 4.50 points to end at 125.60 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) was up 3.29% or 3.00 points to 94.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which lost 5.51% or 635.00 points to trade at 10,895.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.39% or 23.80 points to end at 518.60 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) shed 3.87% or 58.00 points to 1,442.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1030 to 750 and 460 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.38% or 7.55 to $1,996.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.80% or 0.62 to hit $76.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.76 to trade at $79.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.50% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 101.21.
