Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Automobiles & Parts and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 0.96% or 15.00 points to trade at 1,574.00 at the close. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) added 0.75% or 0.85 points to end at 114.35 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) was up 0.70% or 13.50 points to 1,934.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 6.51% or 39.80 points to trade at 571.20 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 3.44% or 22.40 points to end at 629.20 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 2.73% or 27.80 points to 990.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1051 to 699 and 509 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.51% or 27.55 to $1,797.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.15% or 0.90 to hit $77.39 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.41% or 1.16 to trade at $81.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.47% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.33% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 104.18.
