Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, General Retailers and Financial Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DCC plc (LON:DCC), which rose 1.68% or 110.0 points to trade at 6675.0 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 1.42% or 21.4 points to end at 1524.6 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 1.04% or 17.00 points to 1647.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which lost 6.36% or 15.60 points to trade at 229.70 in late trade. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 4.83% or 12.80 points to end at 252.40 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) shed 4.20% or 23.20 points to 529.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1272 to 788 and 336 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.42% or 5.45 to $1301.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.83% or 0.49 to hit $59.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.44 to trade at $68.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.68% to 1.3177, while EUR/GBP rose 0.72% to 0.8614.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 95.942.
