Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Automobiles & Parts and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which rose 3.57% or 17.90 points to trade at 518.90 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 3.20% or 5.04 points to end at 162.78 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.30% or 18.40 points to 818.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq), which lost 38.83% or 0.39 points to trade at 0.61 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 9.30% or 89.80 points to end at 875.60 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 8.48% or 80.80 points to 872.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1261 to 580 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.91% or 16.90 to $1,864.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.66% or 0.73 to hit $109.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.28 to trade at $110.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP rose 0.85% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 101.76.
