Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, General Industrial and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 4.80% or 7.15 points to trade at 156.05 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 4.36% or 92.00 points to end at 2203.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 3.78% or 4.80 points to 131.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which lost 3.56% or 211.00 points to trade at 5712.00 in late trade. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) declined 2.09% or 13.00 points to end at 608.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 1.55% or 18.50 points to 1178.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1157 to 905 and 291 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 2.90 to $1290.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.64% or 0.86 to hit $51.73 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 0.98 to trade at $60.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.77% to 1.2845, while EUR/GBP fell 0.87% to 0.8939.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 95.157.
