Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemicals, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 4.41% or 20.60 points to trade at 488.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 4.05% or 29.80 points to end at 765.20 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.17% or 4.70 points to 152.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which lost 5.66% or 21.40 points to trade at 356.50 in late trade. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) declined 5.06% or 338.00 points to end at 6,342.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) shed 2.69% or 228.00 points to 8,244.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 982 to 632 and 566 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.40% or 7.95 to $1,985.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.71% or 1.92 to hit $72.78 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.63% or 1.97 to trade at $76.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.64.
