Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Food Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 4.00% or 18.00 points to trade at 468.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 2.96% or 3.20 points to end at 111.40 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) was up 2.49% or 18.60 points to 765.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which lost 2.97% or 328.00 points to trade at 10,710.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.80% or 48.00 points to end at 1,665.50 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 2.36% or 5.90 points to 243.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 965 to 886 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.32% or 6.15 to $1,934.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.92% or 1.57 to hit $80.05 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.26% or 1.99 to trade at $86.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.52% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 101.65.
