Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Tobacco and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which rose 2.92% or 3.58 points to trade at 126.22 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 2.67% or 7.90 points to end at 304.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.48% or 3.25 points to 134.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 3.50% or 5.22 points to trade at 144.04 in late trade. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) declined 3.30% or 191.00 points to end at 5593.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 2.30% or 57.00 points to 2425.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1012 to 1008 and 318 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.33% or 4.25 to $1279.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.29% or 0.68 to hit $53.30 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.22 to trade at $61.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.3029, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.8685.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 96.227.
