Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Forestry & Paper and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 3.12% or 36.00 points to trade at 1191.00 at the close. DCC plc (LON:DCC) added 2.14% or 150.0 points to end at 7170.0 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 1.62% or 39.00 points to 2448.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which lost 3.95% or 7.00 points to trade at 170.20 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 2.99% or 15.80 points to end at 512.80 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.98% or 33.50 points to 1089.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1184 to 734 and 366 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.52% or 6.40 to $1224.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.67% or 0.46 to hit $67.80 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.34 to trade at $72.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.21% to 1.3102, while EUR/GBP rose 0.04% to 0.8930.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 94.35.
