Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 1.68% or 14.00 points to trade at 846.00 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 1.25% or 30.00 points to end at 2428.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 1.19% or 2.00 points to 170.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 3.87% or 39.00 points to trade at 969.00 in late trade. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) declined 3.86% or 57.00 points to end at 1421.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.63% or 57.00 points to 1513.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1073 to 884 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.45% or 6.02 to $1326.68 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.56% or 0.75 to hit $48.98 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.16% or 0.63 to trade at $54.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.53% to 1.3212, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.9002.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 92.40.
