Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 2.46% or 7.60 points to trade at 316.20 at the close. Entain PLC (LON:ENT) added 2.42% or 23.90 points to end at 1,010.50 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (AS:PSH) was up 2.15% or 1.05 points to 49.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND), which lost 3.35% or 21.80 points to trade at 628.40 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.35% or 16.50 points to end at 476.70 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) shed 3.11% or 7.50 points to 233.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 998 to 738 and 710 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.58% or 11.85 to $2,036.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.62% or 0.47 to hit $76.69 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.53% or 0.43 to trade at $82.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.03% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.00.
