Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Financial Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were GSK plc (LON:GSK), which rose 2.04% or 29.60 points to trade at 1,479.80 at the close. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) added 1.77% or 188.00 points to end at 10,788.00 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) was up 1.75% or 1.20 points to 69.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.94% or 23.40 points to trade at 571.00 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) declined 3.63% or 24.80 points to end at 658.80 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 3.54% or 46.50 points to 1,266.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 896 to 771 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 3.45 to $2,075.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.13% or 0.81 to hit $70.84 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.70 to trade at $76.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.73% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.11% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.78% at 101.81.
