Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 11.94% or 42.50 points to trade at 398.40 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 9.92% or 142.0 points to end at 1573.5 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 5.34% or 6.40 points to 126.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 6.57% or 139.50 points to trade at 1983.50 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 5.71% or 8.50 points to end at 140.45 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) shed 4.94% or 70.00 points to 1348.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1160 to 1100 and 144 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.23% or 20.75 to $1703.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.41% or 1.35 to hit $38.20 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.36% or 1.42 to trade at $40.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.30% to 1.2701, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.8891.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 96.692.
