Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 2.25% or 2.35 points to trade at 106.55 at the close. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) added 2.25% or 6.40 points to end at 290.40 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.66% or 14.40 points to 883.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which lost 6.22% or 7.35 points to trade at 110.85 in late trade. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) declined 3.65% or 49.00 points to end at 1295.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 3.48% or 61.00 points to 1691.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1135 to 908 and 251 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.26% or 3.70 to $1400.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.89% or 0.51 to hit $57.58 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.80 to trade at $65.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.13% to 1.2715, while EUR/GBP rose 0.43% to 0.8926.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 95.857.
