Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which rose 2.15% or 24.00 points to trade at 1142.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 1.96% or 3.60 points to end at 187.60 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 1.33% or 3.20 points to 244.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which lost 3.77% or 55.00 points to trade at 1402.50 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.73% or 39.00 points to end at 1008.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) shed 3.61% or 10.80 points to 288.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1022 to 873 and 504 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.22 to $1352.52 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.87% or 0.92 to hit $48.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.55% or 0.30 to trade at $54.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.69% to 1.3202, while EUR/GBP fell 0.62% to 0.9120.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 91.27.
