Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Transportation and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 2.68% or 127.00 points to trade at 4865.00 at the close. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 1.65% or 12.50 points to end at 771.50 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 1.61% or 19.00 points to 1199.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which lost 2.36% or 90.50 points to trade at 3741.50 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 1.69% or 24.00 points to end at 1399.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 1.53% or 20.00 points to 1284.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1100 to 792 and 473 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.61% or 8.05 to $1303.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $51.89 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.08% or 0.63 to trade at $57.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.33% to 1.3422, while EUR/GBP fell 0.33% to 0.8769.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.59% at 92.99.
