Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which rose 3.55% or 55.00 points to trade at 1,606.50 at the close. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) added 3.50% or 51.00 points to end at 1,509.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 2.95% or 57.00 points to 1,986.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 5.00% or 35.20 points to trade at 668.40 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 4.32% or 3.16 points to end at 70.00 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 3.74% or 21.40 points to 550.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 965 to 837 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.12% or 2.05 to $1,713.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.91% or 2.59 to hit $86.32 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.41% or 2.30 to trade at $93.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.50% to 1.14, while EUR/GBP rose 1.03% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 110.24.
