Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Insurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq), which rose 3.98% or 0.30 points to trade at 7.78 at the close. GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) added 2.19% or 0.75 points to end at 34.95 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) was up 1.54% or 21.6 points to 1421.8 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 3.81% or 18.60 points to trade at 469.40 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 2.65% or 4.30 points to end at 158.10 and Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) shed 2.54% or 17.60 points to 676.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1192 to 1013 and 234 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.55% or 9.85 to $1787.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.13% or 0.82 to hit $73.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.16% or 0.87 to trade at $75.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.3976, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8548.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 91.683.
