Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.20% to hit a new 3-year low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Informa PLC (LON:INF), which rose 6.38% or 36.00 points to trade at 600.00 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 5.95% or 9.90 points to end at 176.35 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 4.70% or 60.00 points to 1336.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which lost 6.42% or 87.00 points to trade at 1267.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 6.11% or 40.20 points to end at 617.60 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 4.81% or 71.00 points to 1404.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1139 to 1027 and 162 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.22% or 20.45 to $1655.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 8.80% or 2.74 to hit $33.87 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 7.89% or 2.71 to trade at $37.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.61% to 1.2919, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8756.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.48% at 96.273.
