Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Beverage sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 24.83% or 191.00 points to trade at 960.40 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 21.19% or 32.35 points to end at 185.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 2.32% or 3.45 points to 152.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG), which lost 3.74% or 9.40 points to trade at 241.80 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 3.06% or 165.00 points to end at 5,229.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 2.61% or 12.60 points to 469.45.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 880 to 767 and 490 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,969.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.85% or 0.68 to hit $78.95 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.52 to trade at $82.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 101.01.
