Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 2.61% or 6.70 points to trade at 263.90 at the close. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) added 1.96% or 74.00 points to end at 3,847.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 1.94% or 1.95 points to 102.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 12.10% or 134.20 points to trade at 974.80 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 3.62% or 2.63 points to end at 70.06 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.10% or 39.00 points to 1,816.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1021 to 651 and 472 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.20% or 3.85 to $1,933.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.17% or 0.81 to hit $69.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.85 to trade at $74.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 102.39.
