Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Tobacco and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 6.04% or 33.00 points to trade at 579.00 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 3.73% or 58.50 points to end at 1625.75 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) was up 3.63% or 19.40 points to 553.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 3.10% or 4.07 points to trade at 127.10 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 2.64% or 71.00 points to end at 2618.50 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 2.36% or 80.50 points to 3337.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1456 to 783 and 100 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 3.40 to $1232.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.71% or 0.45 to hit $63.24 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.11 to trade at $72.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.2957, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8780.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 96.38.
