Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Construction & Materials and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 3.16% or 18.50 points to trade at 603.50 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 2.23% or 13.40 points to end at 615.20 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 1.99% or 206.00 points to 10,580.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which lost 1.97% or 3.06 points to trade at 152.56 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 1.82% or 5.00 points to end at 269.60 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 1.67% or 4.20 points to 247.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 829 to 777 and 499 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 2.80 to $1,932.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.09% or 1.46 to hit $71.25 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 1.54 to trade at $76.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.37% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 102.66.
