Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 2.21% or 28.50 points to trade at 1,317.50 at the close. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) added 1.30% or 10.40 points to end at 808.40 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 0.90% or 24.00 points to 2,698.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 2.50% or 3.15 points to trade at 122.95 in late trade. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) declined 1.53% or 215.00 points to end at 13,840.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 1.11% or 6.60 points to 590.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 829 to 772 and 506 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.44% or 9.30 to $2,083.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.34% or 0.99 to hit $73.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.46% or 1.16 to trade at $78.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 100.84.
