Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Household Goods & Home Construction, General Industrial and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 2.21% or 10.05 points to trade at 464.00 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 2.07% or 85.00 points to end at 4,194.00 and Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) was up 1.81% or 42.00 points to 2,363.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which lost 5.96% or 18.40 points to trade at 290.20 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 4.14% or 49.00 points to end at 1,134.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 4.10% or 18.20 points to 425.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1112 to 534 and 500 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.45 to $1,945.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.87% or 1.33 to hit $72.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 1.18 to trade at $77.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.51% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 101.77.
