Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Electrical and Beverage sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 10.98% or 15.60 points to trade at 157.70 at the close. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) added 10.67% or 238.00 points to end at 2,468.00 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) was up 5.05% or 39.20 points to 815.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Schroders PLC (LON:SDR), which lost 3.23% or 94.00 points to trade at 2,818.00 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 2.83% or 28.00 points to end at 963.00 and Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN) shed 2.48% or 4.75 points to 186.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1009 to 841 and 446 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.24% or 4.45 to $1,856.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.91% or 3.48 to hit $122.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.96% or 3.57 to trade at $124.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP rose 0.61% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 102.46.
