Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which rose 4.96% or 51.00 points to trade at 1079.00 at the close. Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq) added 4.73% or 0.62 points to end at 13.85 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 4.30% or 62.00 points to 1504.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 3.73% or 201.0 points to trade at 5185.0 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.81% or 93.5 points to end at 3228.0 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 2.81% or 8.40 points to 290.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1343 to 606 and 429 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.59% or 10.50 to $1795.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.28% or 1.11 to hit $87.93 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.82 to trade at $89.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.3446, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.8351.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 96.655.
