Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Automobiles & Parts and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 3.56% or 88.68 points to trade at 2577.68 at the close. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) added 2.75% or 42.14 points to end at 1575.14 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was up 2.48% or 138.0 points to 5708.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 5.26% or 146.6 points to trade at 2638.4 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 3.36% or 5.30 points to end at 152.60 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 3.22% or 25.47 points to 766.13.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1237 to 1081 and 77 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.76% or 14.05 to $1858.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.30% or 0.16 to hit $53.05 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.36 to trade at $56.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.3625, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8922.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 90.328.
