Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Tobacco and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which rose 4.63% or 178.50 points to trade at 4034.50 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 3.40% or 71.00 points to end at 2158.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 3.27% or 22.20 points to 700.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.44% or 32.00 points to trade at 1277.00 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.03% or 79.00 points to end at 3809.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 1.96% or 5.90 points to 295.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1181 to 780 and 311 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.08% or 1.00 to $1315.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.53% or 1.79 to hit $68.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.03% or 1.55 to trade at $74.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.09% to 1.3546, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8770.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 92.85.
