Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Automobiles & Parts and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which rose 8.58% or 140.50 points to trade at 1,777.50 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 6.83% or 332.00 points to end at 5,196.00 and Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) was up 4.11% or 122.00 points to 3,088.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which lost 4.38% or 29.60 points to trade at 646.40 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 4.24% or 82.50 points to end at 1,865.50 and RS Group PLC (LON:RS1R) shed 2.95% or 22.80 points to 749.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1016 to 954 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.15% or 3.05 to $2,012.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.00% or 1.50 to hit $76.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.94% or 1.55 to trade at $81.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 103.40.
