Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Electrical and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 3.75% or 5.40 points to trade at 149.45 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 3.60% or 12.90 points to end at 371.30 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) was up 3.30% or 16.60 points to 519.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 2.97% or 71.00 points to trade at 2,321.00 in late trade. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) declined 2.29% or 19.00 points to end at 811.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) shed 1.96% or 122.00 points to 6,118.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 853 to 825 and 540 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.22% or 24.25 to $1,957.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.48% or 1.06 to hit $72.80 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.21% or 0.92 to trade at $77.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.09% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 104.11.
