Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Food Producers and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 70.41% or 414.00 points to trade at 1002.00 at the close. SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) added 20.50% or 226.50 points to end at 1331.50 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 4.66% or 116.00 points to 2604.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.43% or 59.00 points to trade at 1273.00 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 2.38% or 65.00 points to end at 2661.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 2.33% or 142.00 points to 5948.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 972 to 961 and 150 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.33% or 17.70 to $1315.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.60% or 1.02 to hit $62.89 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.29% or 0.87 to trade at $66.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.54% to 1.3893, while EUR/GBP fell 0.23% to 0.8800.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.68% at 90.38.
