Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Insurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 4.34% or 25.20 points to trade at 605.80 at the close. Endeavour Mining PLC (LON:EDV) added 2.99% or 40.00 points to end at 1,377.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 2.46% or 19.60 points to 816.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 2.89% or 74.00 points to trade at 2,485.00 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 2.59% or 56.00 points to end at 2,109.00 and Unite Group PLC (LON:UTG) shed 2.48% or 25.00 points to 982.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1048 to 1005 and 393 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.22% or 4.45 to $2,026.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $74.75 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.20 to trade at $79.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.09% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 103.56.
