Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, General Industrial and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 3.42% or 133.00 points to trade at 4028.00 at the close. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) added 3.09% or 42.00 points to end at 1401.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.87% or 36.00 points to 1289.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which lost 7.80% or 163.00 points to trade at 1926.00 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 4.39% or 25.00 points to end at 544.50 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) shed 4.30% or 36.00 points to 800.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1034 to 915 and 483 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 3.68 to $1290.12 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.12% or 0.06 to hit $50.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.16 to trade at $56.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.3209, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.8970.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 92.89.
