Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Insurance, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 6.58% or 10.20 points to trade at 165.15 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 3.98% or 28.20 points to end at 737.60 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 3.35% or 358.00 points to 11,058.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 5.10% or 116.00 points to trade at 2,158.00 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) declined 4.81% or 47.80 points to end at 945.60 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) shed 2.36% or 18.20 points to 754.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 902 to 724 and 493 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.81% or 15.70 to $1,961.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.41% or 0.33 to hit $79.76 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.26 to trade at $83.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.60% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 101.32.
