Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Industrial Metals & Mining and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 5.17% or 118.00 points to trade at 2398.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 1.82% or 77.50 points to end at 4342.50 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) was up 1.33% or 2.00 points to 152.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 3.33% or 90.00 points to trade at 2608.50 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.71% or 99.00 points to end at 3554.50 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) shed 2.53% or 16.40 points to 632.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1192 to 828 and 317 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.10 to $1200.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.58% or 1.74 to hit $69.28 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.47 to trade at $78.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.3005, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8908.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 95.23.
