Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Industrial Metals & Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 7.52% or 10.50 points to trade at 150.05 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 2.20% or 12.70 points to end at 589.60 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 1.97% or 15.20 points to 786.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which lost 5.71% or 33.60 points to trade at 555.40 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 4.63% or 9.10 points to end at 187.52 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 3.03% or 9.50 points to 303.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 998 to 992 and 316 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1301.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.67% or 1.08 to hit $65.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.04% or 1.54 to trade at $76.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.3435, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8796.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 93.35.
